Keep audience captivated;
When you add materials, add some surprising effect, don't fall into their prediction.
Demonstration by Mr. Oki:
A large bamboo basket (with a container inside)
Mr. Oki first arranged green branches, then added sun flowers followed by anthuria. It was almost a complete arrangement. He then show the audience a bunch of willow branches and inserted it into the basket. It immediately added height. Then he bended one branch so it broke off the bundle. As everyone thought it was done, he showed a large piece of dried palm seed pod and placed against the branches. Quite dramatic.

"Arrange from behind"
For demonstration, it's important to arrange from behind. There are steps of training in order to acquire the techniques and confidence of arranging from behind. First, study basic and variations with materials which don't have front or back. Second, with materials which have front and back; third, with branches; eventually, arrange in free style.
I did the first variation upright moribana in the workshop.

Hydrangea delight

I wanted to use hydrangea to express the full and richness. Instead of using thin lines, I chose one large monstera leaf to form the backdrop and dramatic contrast, and it worked.
Queen Anne's lace was originally in the design, to give a soft feeling. But quickly, I found it would not add very effective value to the arrangement. So I didn't use Queen Anne's Lace in the main arrangement. Found a small glass vase, with the leftover of a small hygrangea, I made a bouquet, as if just picked from the country field.
